Coach Pat Summitt makes $600K gift to Tennessee (AP)
Coach Pat Summitt will donate $600,000 to the University of Tennessee to be shared by the Knoxville and Martin campuses. The donation will be given over several years to support the women's basketball programs at both campuses and includes a $100,000 endowed scholarship for a Lady Vols basketball graduate assistant in honor of Summitt's parents, Richard and Hazel Head.

A former women's basketball coach who sued Fresno State for sex discrimination announced Thursday has been hired as the general manager of a minor league professional men's team -- and she's negotiating a movie deal. Stacy Johnson-Klein will begin her new job with the Lawton Fort Sill Cavalry in Oklahoma -- the Continental Basketball Association's defending champions -- on Friday.

Maggie Dixon Classic returns to MSG (AP)
The Maggie Dixon Classic will return to Madison Square Garden for a second straight year. The third Maggie Dixon Classic will be played Dec. 14 at the Garden with a women's basketball doubleheader featuring Rutgers, Connecticut, Penn State and Army. Former LSU assistant Yolanda Wells-Broughton was hired Wednesday as the women's baskeball coach at Texas Southern. Wells-Broughton will replace Surina Dixon, who was hired in March but released June 30 after a contract dispute with athletic director Charles McClelland. Dixon replaced Claude Cummings, who was fired after TSU went 8-20 last season.

Florida State's Buster Posey won USA Baseball's Golden Spikes Award on Wednesday, becoming just the second catcher to be honored as the nation's top amateur player.
