Ricciardo, born 30 years ago in Perth, signs for several years and will be the companion of the British Lando Norris, 20 and who in 2020 celebrates his second year with McLaren. Sainz is expected to move into the ranks of Ferrari. The Madrid player will leave the team at the end of the 2020 season after two years.
For McLaren Racing CEO Zak Brown, “Signing Daniel is another step forward” in his “long-term plan and will bring an exciting new dimension to the team, along with Lando.”
“It is good news for our team, our partners and, of course, our supporters,” he adds.
“I also want to pay tribute to Carlos for the excellent work he has been doing for McLaren in helping our performance recovery plan. He is a true team player and we wish him the best for his future beyond McLaren,” said Brown.
“I am very grateful for my time with Renault and the way I was accepted into the team. But we are not done and I am not looking forward to racing again this year. My next chapter has not come yet, so let’s finish this one with strength. Merci” says the Australian, who came to the mark from Red Bull.
Andreas Seidl, McLaren F1 Team Principal , comments in a press release: “Daniel is a proven race winner and his experience, commitment and energy will be a valuable addition to McLaren and our mission to return to the front of the field. With Daniel and Lando as teammates, I think we have two riders who will continue to enthuse our fans and help the team grow.”
“Carlos is a true professional, a pleasure to work with and we will continue to enjoy racing with him this year. We all wish him good luck for the next stage of his career when he leaves McLaren,” adds Seidl.
