Matt Flowers, 31, best friend of Pazuzu Ilah Algarad, a satanic who drank blood from his girlfriend and killed animals and vagrants, said Pazuzu was like a demon:
Flowers, a veteran of the Iraq war air special forces, watched for eight years as his friend John Lawson became a murderous drug addict.
John Lawson changed his name to that of the demon that appears in The Exorcist: Pazuzu Ilah Algarad, when he converted to Satanism, and also made bodily modifications: he was tattooed, divided his tongue in two and sharpened his teeth.
In October 2014, Pazuzu Ilah Algarad was charged with first-degree murder, as two bodies were found in the backyard of his home in Clemmons, North Carolina. The bodies belonged to two vagrants missing since 2009: Joshua Wretzler and Tommy Welch.
Algarad lived with his girlfriend, Amber Burch, now 29, and his mother Cynthia James, 68. Burch and Krystal Matlock were accused of helping to bury one of the bodies.
Algarad was never tried, as he committed suicide in prison on October 28, 2015.
Flowers told the Daily Mail that his best friend had always considered suicide as an option:
“Pazuzu had always told me that he would commit suicide if he ended up in prison, as he would not be able to do his rituals every month on the dark moon. He talked about it in such detail; he told me that with his sharp teeth he would eat his finger, leaving the bone so he could stab himself in the neck with it.
Algarad’s autopsy showed that he died of blood loss from a wound that punctured the artery in his inner left forearm.
“Pazuzu wanted to be a demon. He didn’t used to take what he said seriously; nobody did. He chose the name El Exorcista because Pazuzu was the demon who got what he wanted.
A troubled childhood and adolescence led Algarad’s parents to take him to a psychiatrist, whom he managed to persuade that his mother was the problem.
According to Flowers, Pazuzu told him that he learned about sex when he was 6 years old because he saw his mother having sex with cyclists.
Algarad and Burch performed rituals in front of an altar in the living room:
“She sacrificed animals in front of me, rabbits she bought at the pet store. He killed them and rubbed blood all over his face. He also drank his girlfriend’s blood.
Finally, Flowers got tired of all this and decided to denounce Pazuzu, but he kept calling him brother; he even asked him to kill someone together.
