The video, first reported by Fox 10 Phoenix, was posted on William Guy’s YouTube account. After a brief period of calm over the ocean, suddenly 14 bright lights appeared looming over the water.
Someone in the video can be heard saying, “Look, nothing in the sky and suddenly …” “Does anyone tell me what that is?” Said the person, Guy reportedly reports.
You can hear people in the background commenting on the lights.
“We are in the middle of the ocean, on a ferry, with nothing around. Look. Nothing around Without land, with nothing,” the person added.
A person who commented on the video said he believed they were from a nearby military base.
“I’m pretty sure I know what those lights are,” wrote Derrick Chennault, who identified himself as a former Marine based on the second Marine Air Wing in Cherry Point, North Carolina.
“We used to release flares regularly from the back of our plane in the afternoon for military exercises in that area,” Chennault continued.
“It’s a million candles each, so they were quite bright and could be seen from afar and floated slowly while hanging from a parachute.”
The military base is approximately 125 miles west of the Outer Banks.
However, a spokesman for the military base confirmed to Fox 10 Phoenix that there were no planes from that base in the area the day the video was published.
