Today, Monday, the draw for the Copa del Rey has just been held. A raffle in which there will be a total of 112 teams and where the presence of 10 Regional clubs, the fifth category of Spanish football, is striking. However, not all clubs have had to participate in the hype.
There have been four in particular that will be exempted from the first two rounds. In fact, they have earned it on their own merits.
These teams are Real Madrid, Barcelona, Athletic de Bilbao and Real Sociedad. The reason for their exemption is that they are the current champion and runner-up in the league in Spain, and finalists of the last edition of the Copa del Rey, respectively.
Due to the remodeling that Spanish football underwent last year, the teams that play the Spanish Super Cup are exempt from the first two rounds.
So we will not see any of them until the third round, it is assumed that against teams, at least, from Second B.
The 2020 edition, between the two Basque teams, will be held on April 4. This year’s will be just two weeks later, on the 18th. Both games will be played at La Cartuja in Seville. A very interesting fact at least in a very strange year.
